 In obedience to this command of Christ, True Life Ministries, Inc., based in Atlanta, Georgia, has stewarded the Annual Open Water Baptism at St. Simons Island for nearly three decades. Held each year during Father’s Day weekend, this sacred outreach was established through the inspiration and leading of God, directing Pastor Gregory Hughes to the shores of St. Simons Island as a public, open display of faith, unity, and obedience.

Each year, the True Life church family travels from Atlanta, approximately a five-hour journey, to the Georgia coast on mission, answering God’s call to reflect Him, glorify Him, and invite others into transformation. What began as an act of obedience has grown into one of the most unifying open water baptism experiences on the East Coast.

This sacred, non-denominational outreach is more than an event. It is a public declaration of faith, a moment of renewal, and a living testimony that God is not only real—He is still restoring and still calling His people into His righteousness.

 Set against the breathtaking shores of the Atlantic Ocean, the Open Water Baptism brings together individuals, families, and ministries in a shared celebration of Faith, Unity, and New Beginnings.

Over the years, this outreach has partnered with hundreds of churches and witnessed the baptism of thousands of people, with participants and ministries traveling from across the country to take part in this sacred moment, all united by one name: Jesus Christ. 

Pastors and church leaders are invited to baptize their own members and join together in baptizing the masses, while individuals without a church home are warmly welcomed and fully supported.
